David Moyes has received a timely boost with the news Tim Cahill has returned to full training.
The Australian international has been sidelined since May following surgery on a troublesome metatarsal.
But, having received the green light from his surgeon, the midfielder is now back among his team-mates - and homing in on a first-team return.
"Tim's back in full training," head physio Mick Rathbone told evertonTV. "He's been training the last couple of days in fact.
"He got the go ahead from his surgeon in Sydney, who we sent the latest batch of X-rays to a week or so ago. He's emailed us back having reviewed them and he's delighted with the progress of the repair."
Having work closely with Cahill throughout his rehabilitation, Rathbone says a return to action will be just reward for the hard work and commitment shown by the player.
"He's trained brilliantly and he looks in very good shape. He's excelled at all the conditioning exercises and he's been champing at the bit to get back involved.
"All players want to play and he's had a lot of problems with that foot. But hopefully it's sorted now.
"The previous surgery hadn't really solved the problem but this was advanced, almost revolutionary surgery, and - touch wood - it looks good."
